English football plans for the future...

The FA has outlined new proposals for the future of youth football in England which, if accepted, will see an increase in small-sided football, the introduction of a 9v9 format, no 11-a-side until under 13s and no league tables for under 11s.

The aim is to make the game more relevant to children and less adult-oriented, as Nick Levett, the FA's National Development Manager for Youth and Mini-soccer, explained when he talked Club Website through the proposals this month.

... while Scottish football sets out on new path

It's all change for Scottish football starting next month as the youth game takes the first steps on the new National Player Pathway, a joint initiative from the Scottish FA and the Scottish Youth FA.

The new player pathway introduces a consistent approach to youth football across Scotland. Centred around small-sided football, the new pathway will see all children under 12 playing either 4v4 or 7v7 games in summer leagues to aid their development in preparation for the 11-a-side game.

Football & Me - Mark Chapman

When he was 13 years old, Mark Chapman knew he wanted to work in radio. It's a wish he has fulfilled with a decade as a sports presenter on Radio One and now a role as one of the main presenters on 5 Live Sport.

We caught up with 'Chappers' recently and talked about his relationship with the beautiful game, which began with a trip to Old Trafford for his eighth birthday.

He tells us about his transformation from an old-fashioned centre back to a modern football coach and what it's like to work in the game he loves. Also, after working with Graham Poll, we put his refereeing knowledge to the test.

CW members among Scottish grassroots heroes

Congratulations to Glenrothes Strollers FC who were named Best Grassroots Community Club at the 2011 Scottish FA Grassroots Football Awards this month.

The awards recognise the hard work of the tireless volunteers who make Scottish grassroots football a success - volunteers like (l-r) Tom Kilgour, Fiona Robertson, John Buchanan and Brian Gibson, who collected the award on behalf of the club.

Also honoured was Aberdeen & District Juvenile FA secretary Raymond Kelly who was named Best Volunteer in Youth Football. Many congratulations to Raymond and all of the winners from everyone in the Club Website team.

English FA looking for grassroots heroes

Do you know someone who dedicates their time and effort to their local football community? Someone who goes that extra mile for their club or league? If so, then you should nominate them for an FA Community Award.

That's what happened last year to Club Website member Bill Taylor (right) who had a fantastic Wembley day out to pick up his Volunteer of the Year award.

If you know someone who deserves that sort of recognition, nominate them now!

Stuart Roy Clarke is the creator of The Homes of Football, a peerless visual account of the changing face of our national game post-Hillsbrough which will take pride of place in Manchester’s new National Football Museum this autumn.

Clarke's latest offering, The Cradle of the Game,

And another thing...

Loads to talk about in the world of football since The Clubhouse last hit your inbox in January, not least the saga surrounding Richard Keys and Andy Gray's now infamous sexist comments which cost them their jobs at Sky Sports.

A huge debate about sexism in football ensued - as examined here at Club Website - while the comments led to a very clever response from the people at Kick It Out.

The big news for the grassroots game was the FA's proposals for the future of youth football in England (featured above). We broke the news here at Club Website, whilst also bringing you comment on the issue from The Times journalist Peter Lansley.

There was fantastic news for Club Website member side Boldmere Falcons as they received news of huge cash boost from the Football Foundation.

We brought you news from Sport England as their Sportsmatch
scheme re-opened with improvements for 2011 and again when they asked what facility improvements your club needs.

On top of all that, as ever, we kept the debate going and the prizes flowing on our Facebook and Twitter pages, so make sure you sign up to keep right up to date!
