Welcome to The Clubhouse - May 2011
Hi folks. Hope you had a great Bank Holiday weekend. As the football world continues to marvel - and rightly so - at Barcelona's sublime display on Saturday night, here in The Clubhouse this month we take a look at the disparity between the riches on display at Wembley and the current financial difficulties facing many in the grassroots game.
We speak to Clive Tyldesley, the man behind the mic for ITV at Wembley, about his relationship with the beautiful game and we chat to Sir Trevor Brooking about the FA's big plans for youth football in England.
We've got all the latest grassroots football news - including victory in the Tesco Cup UK finals for one Club Website team - and we give you the chance to take your team mates on a fantastic trip to the Alton Towers Resort this summer. Enjoy the issue.

Grassroots football feeling the pinch
As a global TV audience of hundreds of millions watched Manchester United in the richest game in club football at Wembley on Saturday night, the English game must have appeared in rude financial health. But a Club Website survey on the financial state of grassroots football shows that is not the case for all clubs.

Football & Me - Clive Tyldesley
Clive Tyldesley was the man behind the microphone for ITV at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night, as he has been for Champions League finals, World Cups and European Championships for the station since 1998 - a career that represents the fulfillment of a childhood ambition present since the young Tyldesley commentated on himself kicking a ball around the back garden.
We chat to Clive about his life in football, from supporting Manchester United as a boy to his famous commentary as they won the Treble, via his work in radio and his wider thoughts on the game, Respect and the role of the media today.

Youth football changes to "enthuse and excite"

“Fantastic achievement” for UK champions
Congratulations to Staplehurst Monarchs, winners of the Under 13 Boys title at the Tesco Cup UK Finals in Birmingham this month. The English champions, whose website is powered by Club Website, saw off the other three home nations champions - including two other Club Website teams - en route to the title.
Unfortunately for Alyshia Walker, captain of Scottish champions Fauldhouse Foxes, last week's change to FA rules on mixed football in England - allowed up to under 13s from next season- came too late for her to play in the tournament.

And another thing...
In the build-up to the Champions League final we spoke to UEFA's Technical Director Andy Roxburgh about UEFA Grassroots Day, a “celebration of grassroots football” across Europe, while Sir Trevor Brooking told us of his hopes for a "classic" final to inspire the grassroots game - a wish that was duly granted!
Also appearing on the Your Kids Your Say roadshow is Gareth Southgate, the FA's new Elite Performance Director, who senses a "mood for change" in youth football in England.
We brought you news from the SYFA - including all the results from the SYFA Cup Finals and details of a new kit deal that means discount kits for SYFA teams - whilst we marked 100 days to go until the Homeless World Cup.
That was the big news this month but, as ever, there's been much more going on at Club Website. Our polls focussed on the big issues in grassroots football, with the spotlight this month largely on the financial state of the grassroots game.
Football finance was just one of the topics debated on our Facebook and Twitter pages, where our followers keep bang up-to-date on all things Club Website!
