in the spotlight this month...

Racism still a grassroots football issue

Results of a Club Website poll published today show that 29 percent of the grassroots football community have witnessed some kind of racism at a football match in the last 12 months.

With the official number of incidents reported to the home nation's Football Assocations significantly lower than this, Club Website editor Dan Pope looks into the possible reasons behind the shortfall.

And another thing...

So what might you have you missed on Club Website this month if you've been living in a cave? Loads, as it happens! The FA announced plans for their 150th birthday celebrations, which they hope will give the grassroots game its moment in the spotlight.

North of the border, the SFA have set up their 2020 Development Centres, former national team coach Alex McLeish has backed the Positive Coaching Scotland scheme, while the Bank of Scotland Midnight League has been hailed as the "ideal weekend activity" by Hibs midfielder Lewis Stevenson. Plus we've brought you a round-up of the latest from the SFA in Scotland United.

Grassroots football clubs in England can get a helping hand from the Football Foundation with a further £2.1m of funding made available via their Grow the Game scheme, while clubs have also been encouraged to apply for Sport England funding via its highly successful Small Grants fund .

England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce stated the importance of good football facilities for player development, while the body responsible for so many, the Football Foundation, picked up an award at the inaugural Football Business Awards for its partnership with Barclays Spaces for Sports.

Finally, we kicked off our new series of debates on hot topics in grassroots football - henceforth known as The Wednesday Word - when we asked if taking advantage of a uncontested backpass, as Luiz Adriano did in the Champions League this month, was either unsporting or opportunistic.

We want you to get involved in the debate, so we opened a poll on the issue, whilst thrashing it out as ever on our Facebook and Twitter pages, so come on over this month and join in the fun!
